    Cheers
I'm puzzled as to why Wet and Dry won't remove it as it is an abrasive. W&D removes metal so it will certainly remove dirt.

    What is the 'dirt' exactly?

one more thing to try is servisol foaming cleaner, i used to use that when cleaning up old cb's and radios - works a treat about £3 for an aerosol on ebay.

Im puzzled too Its like grease in the metal but all the rubbing in the world isn't removing it. I have some cola so I'll try that first and use a bit more wet and dry then vinegar or break cleaner. I think I can't rub it as well by hand it's fiddly so it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks for all advice though got plenty of different products to try.
