    bsa meteor barrel

Hi guys, just a quick question which im sure one of you will be able to answer i have a 1970sish BSA meteor in .22 ( not sure of exact model and dont have it with me at present) with a barrel slightly bent upwards due to someone firing when cocked but not in the straight position; probably me in my youth . I was planning to replace it at some point, question is would I be able to change the .22 bent barrel for a .177 when I get round to replacing it or does it need a .22 barrel to function? Thanks!

hi, you could fit a 177 barrel but the 22 spring would not be strong enough for the 177 pellet.
spring change would be needed also in order to bring power levels back up to the norm.

Cheers for that, it has been pretty much left alone for 20 years and is probably shooting at about 4ft lbs anyway so a new spring and seal is in order. would the other parts of the rifle be able to take a stronger spring? Thanks in advance.

The best thing to do with a meteor is put standard, new, parts into it. Clean and degrease everything, polish all mating surfaces, LIGHTLY smear everything with moly grease, being carefull not to get any above the piston when you put it back in the cylinder. If you dont fancy doing it yourself, send me the bits and ill do it for you. Ive probably done about 15 meteors in the last 18 months, some for myself but mostly for friends. From basic servicing to full restorations. With regards to the .177 barrell, as mentioned before, it will fit but the spring is slightly different. You'd be better off with another .22 barrel instead. Let me know if you need one as iv got a spare one here that you can have for your £15 plus your old barrel.Regards, brett
