Just a thought guys,
At the moment I only have available to me a .22. I far prefer to shoot a .177 but having zeroed a couple for some mates i'm not back to my webley .22.
I had a thought that maybe I could look for a lightweight .22 pellet to try and achieve the kind of flat trajectory that I like with a .177.
Being as the pellet is a little larger, is it likely to decelerate and lose power quickly?
Can anyone name a particularly light .22 hunting pellet (maybe a contradiction in terms, but i'm comfortable using sub 10 grain .177 pellet to hunt with so why not .22?)
Cheers
andy

Rabbits.25
Woodies. 10
Squirrels. 16
Rabbits (ferreted). 6
Also look for Prometheus Defiants, lead alloy, so lighter than pure lead, also torpedo shaped so accurate, what are you using?
Spring powered I take it, as too light a pellet in a pcp is a big no no!
falcon accuracy and as above defiants pellets
Defiants are great, BUT they do need a clean barrel and very susceptible to head size. My Scorpion loves the 5.53, but 5.52 is useless. It took at least 100 shots before they were grouping well. By about 60 shots I could see the group starting to tighten, so I just kept going an dended up with 5p groups at 50 yards of a rest. Incredibly accurate. Have no idea how they perform with regards to terminal ballistis though - I use Accupell fo rhunting in the .22 rifles. The Scorpion shoots them nearly as well, the HW77 is OK with them (will try RWS in the hW, should be a lot better!) and the Theoben SLR groups into a 5p, when I am on song, at 30 yards.
The other thing to do is look at the pellet weight chart and see what there is around the 12-14 grain mark. Acuppel are 14.3
And don't believe what they say on the tin...my H&N FTT are all over the place!
Original 45 .22 (V-Mach tuned), Logun MKII .22, BSA 240 Magnum .177, Webley Longbow .22(nearing completion).BASC member.
What distance, everybody asking but il ask how far you shooting what gun at what and what you expecting to shoot.....Ratz
sorry dave, maybe my question was initially a more general one about using lighter pellets in a .22 but my circumstances are.
I want to zero the gun at 30 yards, and make a 1" pbr to as great a distance as possible (probably around 35yd) without any holdunder at shorter ranger
the gun is a webley raider 2-shot at 11.6 ftlb w/ 14.5 gr superdomes.
I shoot rabbits, pigeons, squizzers, corvids and the odd rat when asked.
i was hoping there may be some 10-12gr pellets out there but i'm drawing a blank (little munitions based pun there for you)
Rws Hobbys are around the 12 grain mark, Thunder bolts come in at 2 weights, 10g for springers & 13g for pcps, H&N hollow points 13.5g.
Pulling the trigger, is the point of no return, but it all depends on what your aiming at.
rws hobby's are all over the place after 15 yard cos there wadcutters,no chance for hunting, try rws super domes or fields, daystate rangemaster li's look good too
