I just go for scalding with hot water and rattle them about in a sieve. 100 or so at a time to knock any swarf off and dry them on sheets of newspaper

for anyone that may be interested i bought this ultrasonice cleaner http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3208414693...ht_3480wt_1185

not the cheapest one available so i thought it would be a fair test..

    the results..
rubbish, i mean total and utter..

i put half a tin of aa fields through a cycle and no difference. i then put it through about 10 cycles. heres a photo below. can you guess which pile had been cleaned and which hasnt? right or wrong it clearly will be a guess.. told the seller that it doesnt do whats stated on the box so id like to return it for a refund. after days of arguing about it he has now given me another to try. i havent tried the replacement yet but i seriously doubt its going to be any better. im sure he will be getting them both back soon enough

although everytime i changed the water there was a gathering of lead dust in the bottom of the machine, this seemed to just keep coming which i found interesting

I tend to clean my pellets on fur or feathers just before it enters the target.

I went through a phase of sorting sizing cleaning lubing my pellets but then realised for what I do, there was no point. 1mm better grouping makes no difference in the field when you are guestimating distances etc.

The ultra sonic cleaners are great on brass. Brings it up like new. Problem is with ultra sonic cleaning you can only really do a few things at a time or you dull the effect of the vibration. Lots of lead pellets will dampen the effect somewhat. Try just doing a single pellet.

I picked up a £3.49 battery powered sonic cleaner. Its nothing more than a cup holder with a feeble motor vibrating action. Seriously, I have a toothbrush with more power than this. The only thing its ever cleaned was £3.49 from my wallet, which is kind of all that i expected. Perhaps if your friends with a dentist they could let you borrow a medical grade ultrasonic cleaner. In the mean time i'll try one pellet till the batteries are done and see if it makes any difference at all.

You need to watch out for these cheap ultrasonic cleaners, a lot of them are simply a vibrator in a bath. Proper ultrasonic cleaners are expensive pieces of kit although Lidl have one in occasionally which I am tempted to try, most stuff I've got from Lidl has been pretty good.

The other day i had a nightmare with a tin of .177 superdomes... wind knocked my case over and the open tin of about half full pellets went in dusty dirt... I rinsed them just with cold water under the tap in a sieve untill all traces of dust had gone... then dried them on tissue paper then a hairdryer.. Havent shot any yet but should be fine right?
