Not wanting to sound like a really old man, or like a militant but I think we should bring back national service. By that I don't mean give every kid a gun n send them to war, I mean community services, drill training etc. Allot of parents don't control there kids, and my mam is a teacher and she says she has no power what so ever over the kids, you can shout at them and defend yourself if they try and attack you and that's it. With national service and drill training they will learn respect for authority and other people, they will learn there is consequences to there actions. And with the UK in a recession having national service will help to maintain communities which have a lower government funding towards them.
A gun is like a condom. I would rather have one, and not need it. Then need one, and not have it.

getting back to reality though gun crime in this country is pretty low! this knee jerking happens all the time. a vet having to deal with shot cats is understandably going to get p##### of, i would! but just banning stuff doesnt stop animal cruelty does it? i mean isnt animal cruelty illegal?.... still goes on. sub 12 ft/lb air rifle havnt gotten more powerful but because of the media the public's perception of them with sensationalist headlines like mad sniper with high power air "WEAPON" and powerfullist "WEAPON" that can be bought without a licence.

years ago we had posters at school about air gun safety and talks from police, we were far more educated about guns i think. being in a rural area most lads i new had air rifles and most were sensible, the ones that weren't well.... having or not having a gun wasnt going to stop them hurting, killing or breaking stuff. there were as many lads with cattapults back then as there are with mobile phones now... you can if that way inclined kill, maim break and injure as much with one of those as you can with any air rifle. lets see them try banning sticks and inner tubes

‘After nearly 43 years as a qualified vet, the severity of injuries inflicted by air guns has increased dramatically.
Modern air guns have immense power
and the pellets are not being embedded on the surface of the cat, as I used to regularly deal with, but are now passing through the body and smashing bones to smithereens.'

Above is a quote from the article. The guy who made it may be a qualified vet, but he knows little about airguns........
