I stripped a HW80 once and polished it on my buffing machine, to stop it rusting i used to polish it with Mr sheen, i had one years ago that had the same treatment, that one never rusted either..

I read on a sword forum that the spay polish leaves polymers or polymide's on the surface of the steel that moisture won't penetrate, it's also better than oil as dust/hairs/fluff etc will stick to the oil- it won't when polished
