My brother had a Mercury back in the 80's.
With open sights on it was the best balanced gun I have ever picked up.
I've got one of these in .177,with a new spring it produces 11 ft/llbs.Never had any scope creep and it is pretty accurate for a 30+ year old gun.You can get all the parts, including open sights, from Chambers.
I have one of these in .22. Yes, they're getting on abit but they are still bloomin' good fun!! Pretty accurate and powerful for an old springer rifle by all counts too. Mine is kicking out a pretty constant 11ft/lbs.
Never experienced any scope creep. And as they other guys have mentioned, they come with an open sight as standard from the factory. The only problem with the sight is that with fitted foresight, you can't slip on a silencer.
You'll love the gun if you get one though!
my brother has one also, great plinker with the open sights. it was an old one but with a bit of fettling its smooth, although the trigger has about a 40lb pull!!

My biggest fear is that when I'm dead my wife will sell my gun (and fishing gear) for what I said I paid for it.
Bought my Mercury Mk1 without rear sights, been cut to carbine and has silencer fitted. Added a cheap 4X20 scope and puts out 9 ft/lbs. Eley 5.6mm wasps are good in this rifle and the cheap scope is holding well. Needs a new spring, top hat etc. as well as a decent lube job.
There are parts available for these almost everywhere including Evilbay.
I have a old Mercury, bought it for £15 in 1990 off my Dad's friend(first rifle i owned, used my Dad's before) and used it for a summer, then got a FWB 127.
I still have the Mercury, it's well battered and dinged on the metal but it is still shooting ok. It's running at 10.2ft/lbs and takes care of the pepsi cans no prob, going to use it to teach the lads how to shoot in the next few years, it will take more hammer again but it's no big deal. It saves my TX and Ultra until they can shoot and look after a better rifle
I did have the front sight but it has been lost, it has a Nikko Sterling 4x32 scope on it, bought from BAR in the 90's sometime. It is great fun just to have a blast with in the field now and again![]()
