tesco cree torch - light review

    hello all,

i wrote about my gun lamp mount and was asked if i could give more details on it well here we go.

if you want to see pictures got to my thread 'another very cheap gun light mount ive made'

its post no 11 that has a couple of decent pics on.

right the lamp is about 7 inches long not sure on weight but very light anyway, it takes 2xAA batteries, the end just unscrews and replacement takes about 30 seconds.
nice black/dark grey colour comes with a removable wrist strap, very very bright CREE led bulb, i have no problem illuminating trees at 100 metres or more.

ive been using it on my home made lamp to scope holder for a couple of nights and you really dont notice the weight.

battery power is not too bad i left mine switched on for 2 1/2 hours yesterday on a new set of batteries (panasonic alkaline gold) using my home made red filter after about 2 hours 10 minutes it started to dim quite bad to the point of being unusable with the filter, it was still usable without but only for another 20 minutes or so.

so overall a good cheap little hunting light and the price a very reasonable 10.00

if any one wishes to add more feel free
    regards simon

i have a cree light i got from a mate the cree Q5 (they retail on ebay at £17.99) it says they are 900 lumens or brighter it takes 3 AAA BATTERIES has a slide function to make the beam wider or narrow it also has 3 settings ultra bright - bright and strobe (not sure if the strobe will be good for hunting but its there anyway) its 5 inches long and almost an inch wide at the body (bit wider at the head) havent had a chance to use it in the field yet but compared to the light i got with the bsa kit i ordered from blackpool air rifles its amazing the bsa light had a max range of 20 yards this one will be good for atleast 10x that

just uploading a video comparing the 2 now will post it when its done

hope this helps if anyone is thinking of a cheap hunting light thats very very bright
ps long shot but if i wanted to put a red filter on it will i need to make one or will i be able to find some that might fit thanks in advance howlin

Fight and you may die Run and you will live And dying in your bed many years from now would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance to come back here as young men and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our AIRGUNS

Right i knew id missed something doh!

no unfortunately the beam is not adjustable or able to be dimmed, but when using the filter if you use 2 layers of acetate then it dims it quite a lot.

also the on/off switch is a button on the rear part that unscrews to take the batteries, unfortunately there isn't a separate remote switch ,although i cant see why one couldn't be made up with some wire and a small flick switch.

now onto how i made the filter, it really was easy and cost pence (if that) one of the standard sports caps off a bottle of pop was what i used (i think it was buxton water i cant remember as i robbed it from my daughters school bag) - some things take priority! , next i robbed my other daughters 3d glasses as i couldn't find the acetate sheet anywhere (ive now seen it on fleabay for a pound a sheet) next job drill out the end of the sports cap and superglue the small piece of red acetate onto it and trim round the edges, all you do to fit it is push onto the end of the torch (you may need to put a bit of tape around the end of the torch to tension it up a bit) then its job done, you could use any colour acetate you feel would work, green, blue, orange etc etc, and im sure you could make a better one than i use as mine was a rush job as i needed it that night. Ive also read that a red sweet wrapper is just as effective although dont bother with roses as they are coated with silver foil.

hope that helps a bit and sorry to drone on again.
    cheers simon
