Hello all,
I recently sent my 18month old .22 cal HW35 off to Lyn Lewington for a tune. It was shooting a little close to the limit (11.9) previously, was a touch 'graunchy' cocking, and had spring twang when fired. Sounds terrible, but really 'normal' for how they leave the shop when new. I had owned mine from new and really wanted it, well 'perfect'!
I emailed Lyn for a quote, and duly sent the rifle off a few weeks later after Steve Pope was back from his hols. (He supplies the V-mach kits). The V-mach was £70 odd, and Lyn's labour to fit it, and polish the rifle internals another £40. After a 10 day 'holiday' including posting both ways, it was back!
Lyn included the old spring/guide/piston seal, a receipt and a sample pack of his recommended pellets (Falcon accuracy plus). He also informed me before posting that the rifle was firing at 11ft/lbs using these and AA field pellets and was that ok? Fine by me, gives some room to manoeuvre if power creeps up as things bed in.
So his sampler pack of Falcon's went through and even after only 25 odd shots the before and after difference was vast. It now feels like a gas ram to shoot - a quick thwock as the pellet is launched. Little recoil and no twang. Cocking is a beautiful silent glide of the barrel! Impressed? Oh yes!
Velocity over my F1 Chrono showed a high of 611 fps and a low of 605fps over a 5 shot string - now that impressed me a lot! Power spot on 11ft/lbs as Lyn reported.Accuracy is as it always was - spot on, just easier to shoot now as it so much smoother.
Approx 250 pellets have travelled the barrel now and it is just beautiful to shoot. If you are thinking of getting your springer V-mached, just do it! The transformation is amazing. If you want it done professionally and properly then Lyn has my vote! His work comes highly recommended from me, I can supply his phone number & Web address for anyone interested in obtaining a quote for work.
Thank you Lyn for a quality job.
Thanks to you all for having a read.
All the best
Mark
