Okay, this has probably been done a million times before, but what the hell...
I've had my S410 ( a carbine in .22) for six months now and thought it was about time I gave it a review.
So, good points:
- I've found it reasonably pellet - friendly. The only ones it hasn't liked really have been Accupells (which was a shame as I had loads left from my previous airgun), but I've had good results with Bisley Magnums and Pest Controls, AA Hunters and Diablos, Webley Mosquitos and the few original Eley Wasps that I've fired through it.
- The groupings are good. I've managed ragged single hole groups at 30 yards and penny-sized groups at 40 yards.
- It runs at about 11.6 ft/lbs with AA Field Diablos, which is more than enough to shoot bunnies, corvids, woodies, rats and squirrels with at 30 yards.
- It's very quiet with the standard AA silencer. When I've a little more cash to my name I'll be getting a MattW moderator for it.
- Being a carbine it's very pointable and not too heavy.
- The magazines are excellent - very simple to use.
- For an unregulated rifle it's pretty consistent. I haven't found a huge amount of difference shooting it at 190 bar to shooting it at 120 bar.
- The cocking / indexing mechanism is smooth and sturdy.
- The stock is very comfortable and the palm swell makes it ft like a glove.
Bad points:
- The safety catch is a joke - not that I would ever rely on one. I have got rid of the original trigger because of this and replaced it with a Rowan.
- It's annoying that you can double-load the rifle. I have heard people say that this is not possible, but I watched 'Er Indoors do it last weekend...
- Pumping it up by hand is a sod.
- The grub screw holding the barrel band worked loose and this affected the accuracy of the rifle dramatically - I had to pull the barrel back into alignment, re-clamp it and rezero the rifle.
- Shot count isn't massive, but this is only to be expected with a non-buddy bottle PCP.
So, what's my verdict? Well, in one word, great. Okay, so it's not an R10, but it doesn't have their teething problems. It's not an Airwolf, but it doesn't come with a huge price tag (I paid £650 for mine secondhand with two Logun lamps and batteries, an FX three-stage pump, pellets, a hard case and a 4-16 x 50 AO BSA Contender scope). It's not what you'd call a posh rifle, I don't think, but it works hard and has no unpleasant foibles. I find that it's done what I've asked of it and done it consistently. I'd recommend the S410 to someone who wanted a solid, reliable and accurate hard-working rifle for taking into the field and putting meat on the table. Yes, there are cheaper rifles and yes, there are more exotic rifles, but I've yet to find anything to tempt me away from my beloved S410.

I’ve just found what I was looking for, it was where I left it …
Good write up, thanks for the info![]()
good review i fully agree.
i've got a AA s410, love it most of the time. mines a bit older with no safety catch which is the worst bit. great rifles and although i've thought about swapping to an ultra or similar i'll keep it and add to the collection rather than loose it. the reality of swapping to another unknown rifle put me off changing it - the 410 has done all i have asked of it and more.
good sum up!

Great review I agree with everything you've said it's the only reason I sold mine is due to the safety catching and the odd double loading
great review, totally agree with the goodpoints and bad points and i have only had mine a month or so

Good review, I have one in .177 which was not up to scratch when I got it, a new stock and a regulator have really sorted it out, they are easy to service and accurate to boot!

There's nothing quite like a nice cup of tea
thanks for the info
How did you get on with the rowan trigger? The only problem I found is I have gone from bsa scorpion to hw100, now have an s410 and the trigger feels ewww. Tweaked it a bit now but can't find it spot on. Sometimes I forget when its about to end at the second stage. Think it'll just take getting used too. Also mines not carbine and with the slip on to 1/2inch unf its massive with a hw mod on! Liking it so far tho
