Red face G96 gun blue creme

This is my first review so please give any advice or construcive criticism you may have. After a lot of use my parker hale striker (pretty much a rebranded BSA lightning) and my weihrauch hw77 have really began to lose the nice shiny factory blue that they once had. I decided that it would be too expensive to send them of to get profesionally re-blued so i researched cold blueing methods and no matter where i looked i couldn't find a good word said about any of them. I took the risk just to see for myself and i brought some g96 gun blue creme from my local gun shop for £10.99. I started with the trigger guard off my parker hale striker as i didn't want to start to big just incase i ruined it. I warmed the trigger guard in hot water and applied a small amount with a cotton swap as advised then i left it for a minute and washed it off. To begin with i was not impressed as the finish was streaky and had grey patches but after 3 more coat's being as even as possible it really began to look shiny and smooth not far of that factory finish i had been aiming for. I finished by applying a light coating of silicon gun oil as recommended and im really impressed. I am going to try the barrel tomorrow hopefully it will turn out well. I definetly recommend this product as a cheap alternative to expensive hot blueing.

Did you clean it thoroughly using a degreaser first ?
I`ve found the best results with G96 (and other bluing liquids/gels) is to degrease, rinse, dry................. degrease, rinse, dry again and when it looks clean/grease free, degrease one more time and then apply

Have to agree though, when I first used G96 and saw the grey streaking I thought to myself "what a load of ........." but it does give the best finish of any of the cold blues i`ve used

i didn't have any degreaser so i left the parts in boiling water for a few minutes and that seemed to get rid of any grease as there where no longer any blotchy grey patches

Sorry for the insanely late reply. Don't use this to blue a whole gun just for little parts like trigger guards and screws. Tried this on a barrel and the results weren't bad but they could have been better. Again sorry for not sending this earlier but I kind of forgot I even joined this forum .

Hope the blueing turns out ok, Alex
