Opinions wanted on Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 3-9x40 AO Rifle Scope

What's the opinions on the Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 3-9x40 AO Rifle Scope?
Also a totally newbie question, on the IR version, does it have to be used illuminated? I'm not got any experience of these and I imagine for mainly good light conditions I'd prefer the standard MilDot reticle if I have to use it illuminated at all times?
And one final question, as this scope comes with mounts supplied (I'm using a Theoben sirocco 2000 with ASI superscope Wide Angle Waterproof 6x40 at the moment with the Theoben mount) could I unbolt the supplied mounts and fit the Nikko to the Theoben mounts and fit the ASI to my Airsporter Mk6 using the Nikko supplied mounts? I'm assuming I can but thought I'd better check.

    Thanks, Kev.

Not used that scope myself, but I do have the nikko sterling gameking and it's a very good scope!

No the IR doesn't have to be on all the time, it would flatten the battery otherwise! I personally think it's a gimmick that is only justified in very circumstances!

I agree with Mick. I had a hawk nite eye with IR and found it useless in low lite or at night as it lights up the inside of the scope to much to see out of. Got rid of it in the end got myself a nikko Stirling Night Eater 8-24x52mm

    Hello guys,

I've just bought a Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 3-9x40 AO Mildot scope.
I've tested it found out that I can't set the Adjustable Objective (AO) to a specific distance.

    I'll try to explain:
The objective stops (gets stuck) between 25 and 50 yards although the options goes all the way to the 100, 200, 300 yards and infinity symbol.
I was wondering if the scope has a factory defect or they're all like that ?

    Thanks

Ive got that particular mountmaster myself and im not overly impressed. Its ok for a budget scope but i would rather have a slightly better model from their range.

I've got the 3-9 x 50 and feel exactly the same way about it. Am on the lookout for a replacement for it.
