When i was looking for a new pcp i looked at the FX Vermy and liked it but i also wanted to shoulder a HW100 after reading so many good reviews on it. I went to Redbeck Shooting to have a look round and they had a few HW100's in, i shouldered the full length and carbine in sporter and thumbhole stock but the HW100kt was the one for me. The balance, length and to my surprise i liked the thumbhole stock over the sporter (this is why you have to get hands on when looking to buy a new set up).
Once it was chrono'd we dealt up and i was off with my new HW100kt .177, weather was bad for weeks so i set about oiling the stock, i used danish oil and applied it a fair few times until i was happy with it. By now i was just wanting to get out and shoot it.
Once the weather broke i mounted my Bushnell 3-9x50 ir scope in medium mounts but i was not happy with how it felt, it just did not feel right when i shouldered it. I pressed on because i had to have a shooting session.
First up was to get some air into it, out with the FX stage 4 pump. Got there not too bad i thought, got the mag's out wow these are good, really well made, dead simple and with fingers like mine easy to load. It's just a simple design where you push the pellets in the hole within the mag, 14 shots too, great.
Off i went to zero it, loaded a mag which is so easy and put it into the breech, took aim and WOW even though the pellet hit high and wide i just loved the feel of it. Within 10 shots i had my zero, well i rattled off shot after shot and every one hit where i aimed, my grin was getting bigger by the moment. Anyhow ran out of air, not sure how many shots i had fired but was happy.
Once i had refilled it i thought i god i have not even thought about the trigger or the side lever action because it felt so good and right. I must of fired two mags worth of shots into the grass just to see how the side lever worked and felt, 10 out of 10 it so simple but very well made, it's so slick. The trigger is 10 out of 10 too, the famous rekord trigger, factory weight is spot on for me, no creep and breaks crisp as you like. The silencer is top draw too, very good. I spent the rest of the afternoon rattling shot after shot off, very happy with how the HW100kt handled but not so happy with the scope set up.
I took the scope off and put it on a one piece high mount and started again, this time it felt right and did not take long to get my zero again. After pumping it up 5,6,7 times i thought i can't be doing with this, god it's killing me
.
Sold the pump and got a 7L tank, wow what a difference (anybody who is thinking i will get a pump, think about how often you shoot and how many shots, if a lot get a tank).
I bought a bi pod for it too, Deben 9-13 tilt and swivel and spent a lot of time testing pellets to find which it liked best. I think it was a excuse for me to use it even more though, it's just so easy to use and shoot. Anyhow i found, Air Arms field, H+N worked the best for it
Next up was to going lamping/ratting. Problem i can't attach my lamp to scope due to one piece mount, so i went to my trunk where i keep all my goodies and mounted my Hawke 4-16x50 scope on high mounts, zero'd again pretty quick. I had a test run in the field in the dark but because i had no ir on the scope i had to give up, i wear glasses and was finding it hard to see the cross air. Not to be put off i thought this is a good excuse for a new scope
.
I ordered a Nikko Sterling GameKing 4-16x50 ir from JS Ramsbottom and landed the next day, got it mounted and zero'd and was happy with everything. By now i had shot my way through 2 full tins of AA field plus all the test pellets i had run through it. It had never missed a beat and was running sweat, i am getting about 60 ish shots out of a full charge which is plenty for hunting
I have now used the above set up for a bit now and put another 4 tins of AA field through it and it's deadly and not missed a beat. It is a joy to shoot, off the bi pod it's pellet on pellet at 30 yards and at 40 it's just a ragged hole. Everything about the rifle is 10 out of 10, trigger, side lever, silencer, length of it, weight etc
Our lad has started to use it a bit now and we shoot it of the bi pod and he loves it and because it does not double load a pellet i don't have to worry about my pride and joy as muchi have added two more mags so four altogether and you can soon get through the pellets when having a plinking session.
I like what it comes with too, two mags and a silencer. All you have to add is your scope and charging gear and your off, the HW100 range is the real deal and built to last. Anybody looking at a new set up would do well to check out the HW100 range

When i bought my 100 full size, it came with a sporter and a thumbhole stock
I tried the thumbhole for a while and hated it, didnt balance properly and felt all wrong. Then i swapped to the sporter stock which was much better.
Now thats gone and its wearing a GinB
Bought a 100k a few months ago, that has the thumbhole and i love it!
only complaint would be that you cant go thumb up, but that will be sorted soon![]()
