    Question Tanfoglio Witness 1911A1

    Hi all,

Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but I'm getting the Tanfoglio Witness blowback jobbie on Tuesday and I want to do it up. I know genuine grips can be modded to fit, (which I will definitely be doing) but I'd also like to fit a beavertail grip safety and other custom parts like the thumb safety and slide release but can they be fitted? I know it's a very, very good copy of the real deal, but I would like to know if the custom parts intended for the real thing can be fitted? I've seen some lovely parts online which I would love to fit, but obviously I don't want to waste my money. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just out of curiosity, why would you add a grip safety? That's the thing most people deactivate on 1911's...

I want to keep it as authentic as possible compared to a real 1911. I want to keep all the functions of the real one. Plus I like the look of the beavertail & an extended slide release wouldn't hurt either for target shooting. I'd like to use as many genuine parts as possible to keep the realism. Wilson Combat do some nice beavertails & bobbed hammers at a reasonable price. I'm a gun nut who loves to tinker & I've seen some nice mods on the web. I'd just like to do one of my own.

The witness allready has a grip safety in it. They've kept it top notch on realism.

Oh yeah, I know that but I'd like to fit a beavertail grip safety. I've always found they fit my hand better and they look better too in my opinion.

Ah fair play, you're right they do look bloody nice. Not sure if you could fit one to the witness though. They are very easy to strip down though so good luck!

I have seen somewhere (sorry cant for the life of me remember where) a barrel bush comparison and there was a variation, not enough to be visible but enough to stop a swap. The same with the sights, not a straight swap but can be fitted with some filing. This to me says there has been a deliberate overall variation in fit and tolerences. So I think you can fit custom parts (if worth the cost!) but be prepared to do some work to 'ease' them in. Grip safety could mean removal of frame metal though!

Comparison with what? KJ Works, Tokyo Marui, Full Bore 1911?
The variation betweenlevers on the Witness and Full Bore or TM is much more than "a bit of fitting up" the dimensions and locations are different enough that you'd need a lot more than filing or machining - ask me how I know ;-)
